What news source do you trust?
Earlier this week, I asked my friends and family on Facebook, “What news source do you trust the most?” I got some interesting answers.
My friends and family on Facebook are all over the political spectrum. So, I expected a variety of answers and hoped for no arguments (it is Facebook, after all). Here I will share some snippets of the comments.
Scotty said, “Great question. If you watch a little CNN and then a little Fox News and then combine them, you probably get a true picture.”
Daniel had a longer answer: “Fox News is consistently known for avoiding real news, and repeating white nationalist and KKK propaganda. Especially Tucker Carlson. None of the American news paints a very truthful picture, and honestly some of our comedy 'news' programs are better news than many news stations. However, watching world news from other nations is probably the clearer picture overall. In particular, BBC and German news. But in general, no matter what source, always double check credibility and information before believing it - and not just googling if it's true, but actually finding some sort of factual source.”
Angela said, “Unfortunately, the news in America has become so untrustworthy and full of cries for ratings and manipulation from the billionaire owners that it really can't be watched just on its own and considered accurate by any stretch.”
Brandi’s answer was “None!”.
Chelsea replied with “We typically use BBC 🤷🏼♀️ it’s so hard though to find anything unbiased. I watch/listen/read several options but also take the time to look into anything that seems wild or “fake”(I.e. exaggerated or out of context)”
I find it interesting that a far-right leaning cousin of mine replied only with “Wow, just wow.” As if he was afraid of revealing the source he actually trusted. Is it possible it was something like One America News?
Hey Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI like your post and I must say this is a very interesting little experiment to conduct on Facebook. If I were to answer this question personally, I would say that I am more inclined to go with Scotty's answer. However, I would say it takes more then just two sources to achieve a more true picture. With how divisive our media sphere has become throughout the variety of networks makes it to where, in my opinion, you must look from many differing sources with differing viewpoints and beliefs in order to get more of a true picture.
